Four Factor to Consider When Sizing Tankless For Commercial Applications

1. Incoming ground water temperature
Ground water temperature will dictate unit size required and may increase it by up to 50% in nothern regions.
2. Hot water demand
How much hot water is required of the application during peak periods?
3. Altitude
National fuel gas codes states that input rating of gas appliances operating at elevations above 2000 ft shall be reduced by 4% per 1000 ft above sea level.
4. Gas line size
Tankless water heaters generally require high gas input (120kBtuh on upward); care must be taken to ensure gas lines are properly sized to meet theses inputs otherwise the perfomance of the water heater could be affected.

Methods to Size Tankless
A measure of the volume of water moving past a given point in a given period of time.
Gallons Per Hour (GPH), an estimated measure of the total gallons of water that an appliance or fixture will use in one hour. Usually specified by appliance manufacture, technical publications such as American Society of Plumbing Engineering (ASPE) and ASHRAE.
An arbitrary unit assigned to different types of plumbing fixtures by Universal Plumbing Codes (UPC) or International Plumbing Codes (IPC), and used to estimate flow rate and drain capacity requirements through pipe and plumbing fixtures.
Replacing existing tanks based on Btuh and storage capacity.
